Thirty years in business across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, the last fifteen as an executive coach. James worked in large international industrial groups — running companies, divisions and transformation programmes. He started coaching alongside his executive career around 2000, then made it his full focus in 2011. His formal training includes a psychology certification from an institution affiliated with the University of Zurich and a systemic coaching qualification based on the St. Gallen model. He works in English, German, French and Italian.
Clients would ask me: why don't we know this? Why aren't we trained for exactly that? Some suggested I should write a book. I did write one. The content was good — thirty years of it. But my writing skills were not strong enough to produce something worth publishing. I gave it up.
Then AI came along. I was already working with it on other things when something became clear: I could reach and help far more people with a well-built application than a book would ever do. AI helped me sharpen the writing and search for scientific evidence behind my tools. I then took the time to improve and solidify those tools, so Nuvaro can operate to a very high standard. That is how Nuvaro was born.
Now people who know me ask a different question. What do you, as the coach, actually think of Nuvaro? What does Nuvaro do that you couldn't? What can you do that Nuvaro can't? This page is my honest answer.
I could help far more people with a well-built application than a book would ever do.
A draft mandate for a consultant the client is bringing in — with the key deliverables clearly defined. A roadmap for someone's first ninety days. Summaries of one-on-one sessions with direct reports. Clients would usually tackle these alone — or I would help, which took time and came at a cost. Nuvaro produces these drafts every time, within minutes, at no extra charge.
I always wanted clients to understand the difference between my personal experience and views on the one hand, and what science actually says on the other. In practice I could not always draw that line clearly — memory has limits. Nuvaro keeps that distinction present at all times. Clients can ask directly where an idea comes from — experience, research, or both — and get a clear answer.
When a client faced a specific situation — how to handle a difficult presentation, how to approach a tough conversation — I could draw on my experience and walk them through a process. But that process was shaped by whatever I had in my head that day. With Nuvaro, I had the time to focus on these processes properly: to refine them, sharpen the tools, work on them for days until they were genuinely good. Now every client gets that same careful version, every time.
When we worked through understanding a key person together — a board member, a CEO, a difficult colleague — I held that picture in my head. Nuvaro builds it as a structured profile, then uses it as a foundation for every future conversation with that client. The work done once stays done.
Clients did not always call when something was on their mind. They would wait for our next session, or decide it was too small a thing to interrupt me for. With Nuvaro, that hesitation does not exist. The worry, the question, the small decision that feels almost too minor to mention — Nuvaro is there for it, whatever the hour — no waiting.
Clients could feel that I truly cared. Not because I said so — because it was obvious. This was not my work. It was my passion. You can sense that difference, and it matters in those difficult moments when someone needs to feel truly supported by the person in front of them.
The spontaneous moment of saying: I had exactly this problem. Here is what I did — and here is what I wish I had done differently. That kind of lived experience, offered at the right moment, has an effect no research can match. It says: you are not alone in this, and it can be navigated.
Knowing someone's context so well that you notice what they are not saying. That kind of understanding takes time and it is deeply human. A profile, however detailed, cannot fully replace it.
I am working hard to make Nuvaro genuinely care — and I think it is quite good at it. But it is not a human being. Whether that is a real loss, a neutral difference, or occasionally even something useful — I am honestly not sure. Maybe a bit of all three.
My suggestion is simple. Try it out. If Nuvaro was able to support you once — for me this is mission accomplished. If you find Nuvaro helps you keep getting better — great.
